My hospital working experience as a student in Georgia

My name is Dim Dennis Uchechukwu, from Nigeria. I am a 5th year medical student of the medical faculty of Akaki Tsereteli State University, Kutaisi, Georgia.  I work in Bomonde hospital, Kutaisi, as a nurse assistant in the Resuscitation unit.

I developed interest in working in the hospital field because I needed a platform, on which I can expand my learning horizons, practically apply my learning skills on patient care, and earn some money to cater for myself as a student. Bomonde hospital, Kutaisi, is one of my university’s teaching clinics in the city, and I am highly privileged to be a member of its staff on duty. I usually work eight times in a month during 22 hours, and have the remaining days for my lecture, clinical rotation, and study.

My colleagues at work are really impressive, related to discipline and working as a team. Working in my department entails, being sharp and fast in attending to critically ill patients, and having a licensed practical nurse as my supervisor has made me improved on many medical manipulations and techniques I need to know as a medical student. The doctors in my department are well experienced and I learn a lot from them while I work. I communicate with the patients, and my colleagues at work mainly in Georgian language, which they admire of me so much but my colleagues do have a knowledge of English Language as well. I started learning Georgian language since my 1st year of medical school and isn’t that amazing?

Having worked for a period of 4 month, my experiences have been good, but challenging because I still have so many things to accomplish as the days go by, and my experience is always a reminder of life, when I become a medical doctor.
